Employability
A degree in international business prepares you for a global culturally diverse career, with opportunities spanning sectors and industries. Employers typically expect graduates to have experience of working in a business environment, so it’s a good idea to undertake some relevant experience before you graduate.
Career Progression
There are a number of routes you can take after university – and everyone’s journey will be different. You could search for a graduate job, enrol on a postgraduate programme or set up your own business.
If being in charge of schemes, resources and people motivates you, and you can work under pressure to tight deadlines, a career as a project manager may suit you.
If you enjoy evaluating and analysing data, creating solutions, working with a variety of people and have a good grasp of information technology, a career as a business analyst could be for you
A genuine interest in supporting businesses and the ability to use your own experiences across a range of specialisms is more important than a specific degree subject.
If you’re motivated, enjoy problem solving and have an interest in helping organisations to operate better, then management consultancy is the career for you.
Sales executives help to drive a business forward by selling its products or services to customers.
To succeed as a corporate investment banker, you’ll need a keen financial mind as well as an understanding of how money is made and invested.
Marketing executives drive profit and promote products and services through coordinated marketing campaigns.
Requiring knowledge of business, marketing, data analysis and technology, plus excellent communication and organisational skill, product management is rewarding yet challenging work.
If you’re resilient, good with numbers and enjoy negotiating and communicating, a career as a purchasing manager could be for you.
Further Study
Some roles will require further study, whether it’s to gain membership to a professional body, further your knowledge in a specific area of business, or even branch out into a different field.
And while postgraduate study (e.g. a Master’s) and MBAs are a common choice, many business graduates will find that professional qualifications are a great way to stand out. Not only do they provide vital training and knowledge, but they’re also recognised by employers worldwide.
